What is Juvederm?
Juvederm injectable gel is a dermal filler that is used to restore your facial skin and shape volume in order to smooth away facial wrinkles and folds like your “smile lines” or “parentheses”, also known as nasolabial folds.
Juvederm is a temporary filler that lasts up to 12 months for Juvederm Ultra and Juvederm Ultra Plus. Juvederm Voluma lasts up to 24 months.
Why does Juvederm come in three formulations?
Juvederm injectable gel is available in three formulations in order to tailor treatment to your unique needs. Juvederm Ultra provides versatility in contouring and volumizing facial wrinkles and folds. Juvederm Ultra Plus is a more robust formulation for volumizing and correcting deeper folds and wrinkles. Juvederm Voluma is also used for volumizing but it lasts up to two years.
How is Juvederm injectable gel different from BOTOX?
Juvederm is a wrinkle filler that adds volume and is used to treat wrinkles and folds resulting from a loss of volume beneath the surface of the skin such as perioral lines and nasolabial folds (lines around your mouth and nose). Botox relaxes muscles and therefore smooths the wrinkles that result from your muscles constantly working. Botox is not a filler.
Juvederm is made of hyaluronic acid. What is hyaluronic acid?
Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring sugar found mostly in joints that attracts water. In addition to its use as an aesthetic treatment, hyaluronic acid has also been used for more than 20 years for injection into arthritic joints to aid movement as well as for eye surgeries and wound repair.
How is Juvederm injected?
Dr. Windle eases Juvederm injectable gel into the skin using a fine needle or micro-cannula. He can essentially airbrush the product into place using specialized techniques with these fine needles and micr0-cannulas.
How long does treatment usually take?
The injection process for Juvederm takes between 15 and 30 minutes. You’ll also need to allow time to consult with Dr. Windle prior to treatment so that he can come up with just the right treatment for you.
Who can inject Juvederm?
Any authorized healthcare professional can administer Juvederm. However, you should see an expert injector such as a dermatologist, plastic surgeon, ophthalmologist, otolaryngologist (ear, nose, and throat doctors), or physicians specializing in cosmetic procedure are generally more experienced.
Juvederm Voluma is designed to create contour and lift to your face by augmenting or adding volume to the apples of your cheeks. Increased volume of your cheeks should give you a more youthful profile. Juvederm Voluma injectable gel will last up to two years.
Juvederm Ultra and Juvederm Ultra Plus
These are the Juvederm injectables that last up to one year. Juvederm Ultra is the original formulation. Juvederm Ultra Plus is a little more stable and as a result, Juvederm Ultra Plus will last a little longer than Juvederm Ultra.
Both Juvederm Ultra Plus and Juvederm work well for wrinkles but Juvederm Ultra is the best for finer wrinkles. Juvederm Ultra Plus is best for deeper wrinkles or folds like the nasolabial folds or smile lines.
Juvederm Ultra Plus lasts, on average, a little bit longer than Ultra. Juvederm Ultra Plus results should last about one year. Studies have shown that Juvederm Ultra results last about 9 months to a year.
Juvederm Ultra Plus is Best for:
- Lip Enhancement or lip augmentation.
- Deeper wrinkles like marionette lines and smile lines.
- Nasolabial folds.
Juvederm Ultra is Best for:
- Fine to moderate wrinkles like around the mouth.
- Scar correction, especially soft rolling acne scars.
Volbella is a recent addition to the Juvéderm family of dermal fillers. It is designed specifically for nonsurgical lip augmentation that results in soft, full, naturally beautiful lips. In line with all Juvéderm products, Volbella is composed of hyaluronic acid particles in a gel base. This product is made using Vycross technology, which is a proprietary manufacturing process from Allergan, the maker of Juvéderm fillers. Vycross technology yields precise filler products designed to address specific cosmetic concerns while maintaining the natural look and feel of the skin.
As a lip filler, Volbella is formulated with smaller hyaluronic acid particle size, which integrates smoothly into the delicate tissue around the mouth.
What is Volbella used to treat?
Volbella is a lip filler, but what does that mean? This product is introduced into the body of the lip to restore fullness and volume. Volbella lip augmentation can correct the deflation that often occurs with age. Deflation can cause the skin over the lips to look wrinkled. The lines on the body of the lips can also extend into the border of surrounding skin. This is a big reason why lipstick bleeds into the area around the lips. Volbella lip augmentation can enhance the definition of the lips, plump naturally-thin lips, and reduce perioral “smokers” lines, a problem that has historically been difficult to treat.
Volbella is right for you if…
- You would like to add volume to your lips
- You would like to soften the appearance of vertical lines on your lips
- You desire long-lasting results
The effects of Volbella injectable are instantaneous and will last up to 1 year. This treatment is made as pain-free as possible due to a built-in anesthetic. Patients are able to resume normal activities immediately following the treatment.
What are the side effects of Volbella?
Some degree of swelling and redness are to be expected after Volbella lip enhancement treatment. Both are typically mild and temporary. Patients usually return to normal activities right after their injections, with the exception of strenuous exercise and sun exposure. It is wise to avoid alcoholic beverages 24 hours before and 24 hours after injections, too, to minimize the risk of bruising.
As a hyaluronic acid lip filler, Volbella is considered safe and effective. The effects of treatment can be reversed with hyaluronidase.
How long does a Volbella injection treatment take?
A typical lip filler appointment takes 15 to 30 minutes. We begin with a brief consultation to identify your treatment goals. You can also ask questions about your treatment, recovery, and results. If you are a good candidate for Volbella treatment, you may have injections performed during the same visit.
Volbella lip augmentation may begin with an application of a topical or local anesthetic. Juvéderm hyaluronic acid products also contain a mild numbing agent to reduce the sensation of injections. The provider uses a very small needle to inject the smooth filler solution beneath lines that age the body of the lips. Injections may be performed along the border of the lips and into tiny lines outside of the border. The results of injections are immediately visible so there is little risk of overfilling. The provider may also gently massage the area to integrate the filler smoothly into lip tissue.
How often can I get Volbella?
Patients who want to maintain the results of their lip filler treatment often schedule touch-ups every 8 to 12 months. Over time, a regular touch-up routine may help reduce the onset and severity of new lip lines, deflation, and definition issues around the lips.
How long will results from Volbella last?
While we see some results immediately during lip injections, mild swelling obscures the final outcome of treatment for a few weeks. About two weeks after Volbella injections, expect to see the effects of your treatment. Most of the time, there is very little difference noticed. This is because the swelling is minimal. The results of Volbella injections are expected to last up to 12 months. Around that time, the hyaluronic acid particles begin breaking down in the skin. They get absorbed into tissue and release the water molecules they have been tethering. As this breakdown and release occurs, some of the initial concerns will reappear.
What is JUVÉDERM VOLLURE?
JUVÉDERM VOLLURE is the longest-lasting dermal filler for the treatment of nasolabial folds. Similar to other JUVÉDERM injectables, JUVÉDERM VOLLURE is composed of a hyaluronic acid-based formula that works to plump and firm skin at the target site. This dermal filler restores lost facial volume while smoothing lines and wrinkles for natural-looking facial rejuvenation.
What is it used for?
It can be used to target nasolabial folds (smile lines) while subtly adding volume to the lower cheek area that may appear sunken. Many patients choose this innovative dermal filler as an alternative to more invasive options such as facelift surgery, as it can provide beautiful rejuvenating results for candidates age 22 or older. It can also be combined with additional injectable treatments, such as Botox Cosmetic, for more comprehensive results.
How long does the treatment take?
Depending upon the patient’s unique needs, a treatment session can usually be completed within 30 minutes. Many patients choose to schedule their appointment during a lunch break or in between errands, since they can quickly return to their normal routine without any downtime. For patients who wish to maximize their comfort and take advantage of our complimentary topical numbing cream, the treatment time will be increased by 15 minutes.
What are the common side effects of treatment?
Most patients experience little to no downtime after a treatment session. Mild swelling or bruising may occur at the injection site, though these side effects typically dissipate quickly should they occur.
What results can I expect?
Patients should notice the effects immediately after treatment. The skin typically appears smoother and firmer, and facial features can look more rested and youthful. The results can last for up to 12 months. Natural looking facial rejuvenation can be easily maintained with touch-up appointments.
What is RADIESSE dermal filler?
RADIESSE differs significantly from other dermal fillers because its unique formula is composed of Calcium Hydroxyapatite rather than hyaluronic acid. This Calcium Hydroxyapatite is suspended within a water-based gel, allowing smooth, small spheres of calcium to gently enter your system, provide instant volume, and stimulate your body’s own collagen growth. Since RADIESSE is both FDA-approved and considered bio-compatible, no prior allergy testing is required for treatment. The outcome of RADIESSE® can be seen immediately, as the gel can add noticeable volume to the injection site as well as achieve long-lasting results thanks to the growth of new collagen.
What is RADIESSE dermal filler used for?
RADIESSE can be used to restore lost facial volume to give you skin that looks fuller, smoother, and more youthful. Many of our patients use this dermal filler to combat common signs of age – including wrinkles, creases, deep folds, or volume loss – around the mouth, nose, temples, or the area around the cheeks. For patients who have noticed their hands taking on a more aged appearance, RADIESSE can be used to add lost volume for skin that looks more plump, youthful, and smooth. Patients who are interested in restoring lost volume to the lips should consider Juvederm for effective lip augmentation.
How long does the treatment take?
Depending upon the number of treatment areas, your Radiesse treatment will typically last about 30 minutes. Many of our patients visit us during their lunch hour for dermal filler treatments and return to work or their normal daily activities immediately afterward.
What results can I expect?
Since the Calcium Hydroxyapatite will be injected directly into the treatment area, these small calcium spheres can instantly restore lost volume to the skin. This immediate outcome is a unique quality of RADIESSE that makes this dermal filler very popular with our patients seeking quick results. As these calcium microspheres are slowly absorbed by the body over time, your natural collagen can regrow, take their place, and provide you with long-term results. For most patients, RADIESSE offers smoother, fuller, more youthful looking skin for about one year, though some patients enjoy results for as long as 15 months. When you notice the benefits of RADIESSE begin to wane, you can schedule an appointment with our office for a touch-up treatment to maintain your results.
What does RADIESSE dermal filler literally do?
Upon injection, the smooth calcium microspheres add volume. They correct the deep folds and facial wrinkles caused by collagen loss that is natural with aging. The microspheres act as “pillars” to fill the space that was once occupied by naturally occurring collagen. Once injected, RADIESSE begins to encourage your body to produce new collagen, which will replace the RADIESSE as it begins to be broken down by your body.
